A serious post for a change.
Yes, I know Gnomes, Mages and BGs are serious, but this is serious real life business.
Movember.
The month of November is Movember in this part of the world, maybe yours as well.
Gnomeaggedon and his real life avatar have decided to participate.
Two beards gone.
Two Mo’s coming.
I’m hoping you will support me in this, because there is one thing I am sure of, Mo’s & Gnomes don’t mix. I also know that a Mo on the RL avatar adds 40 years to appearances and gives the impression of a man out of his latest chemo session.
Last time I participated in Movember, my family went into panic mode, my aged mother freaked out big time. My friends suddenly wanted to catch up, just in case it was the last time they saw me. My wife and son didn’t want to be seen in public (often in private) with me.
Yes, Odin is laughing at my ludicrous attempt to grow a Mo.
Yes, Mo’s and I don’t mix.
Thus I need your encouragement and more importantly, organizations working on prostate cancer and depression in men need your support, whether you are a Mo Bro, or a Mo Sista.
Over the next month I am going to share some of my personal stories and experiences with depression. Not because I am looking for sympathy or understanding, rather I hope you may see something of yourself, or your friends and family in these tales and find the strength to take action… maybe even contribute to those working towards saving lives.
About Movember
Each year Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in Australia and around the world, with the sole aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.
Men sporting Movember moustaches, known as Mo Bros, become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.
Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo growing efforts. The rules are simple; register online at Movember.com and start the month of Movember clean shaven, before growing a Mo.
Money raised in Australia is shared equally between programs targeting prostate cancer and male depression. Funds are committed to our men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative and the Movember Foundation. Together, the three channels work to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world class programs in the fields of research, education, support, and awareness.
Grow Gnomeaggedon a Mo!
So if you are interested in supporting me in this Movember, encouraging me to live with a Mo rather than a sensible face of hair, either in game, or in real life, then click here… go on, you know you want to!
This is a cause I feel strongly about and I’m asking you to support my efforts by making a donation to me. To help, you can either:
• Click this link http://au.movember.com/mospace/770716/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account
• Write a cheque payable to Movember Foundation, referencing my registration number 770716 and mailing it to: Movember Foundation, PO Box 292, Prahran, VIC, 3181
Better yet, why not join my team, Gnomes get the blues too!, as a Mo Bro or Mo Sista and add the weight of your hairy upper lip to the cause?
Gnomer and Out!

I am going MoVember from Goatee style. Should be interesting as it makes me look like 10 years younger which is why I grew the Goatee in the first place.
Goatee!
I got told last time that a Goatee isn’t a Mo, but you know what, if it helps the cause by spreading the word and maybe collecting some money, a Brazillian is fine by me.
That title may have trouble catching on in the States, where “mo” with regard to hair is far more likely to mean “mohawk” (as in Mr. T) or possibly the bowl cut of Moe Howard.
Nevertheless, best of luck with the drive.
Ah yeah, good point.
I’m sure a Mohawk would raise a few eyebrows at my work… but it’s all for a good cause, right?
and thank you!
It’s times like this I really wish I was able to grow a moustache in real life 😦
I have to admit, the last time I did this I doubted I could grow a mo. For years I had a long beard (way down my chest), but my Mo was patchy at best.
Luckily with age I am not just growing hair in ears and nose.. there is finally some on my upper lip.
[…] However, I WILL say that if you’re dying to have some kind of clue before telling me I’m an idiot, you need to go here and all of your questions will be answered. […]
I had never heard of a Mo before, but sounds great. 🙂
I did a little something, but was more for a “what would I look like”, and also made for an easy Haloween costume..
Woops, I missed the part about starting off clean shaven. doh.
Love the “Mythbusters” reference! 🙂
WoW, much more dramatic than my mirror-p0rn hots.
I love the idea of the vacuum cleaner as well.. but then what would the cat roll around in for days after until I got around to sweeping?
It’s been a good 15 odd years since I shave my head (which was to get rid of the hair that was down to my backside, which was grown out from my mohawk).
You like me, have a good head for no hair.
It’s such a shame that when people see a smiling skinhead approaching them, they run in terror.
as another magey head-shaver, i want to know what razor you’re using!
Just think, if the 60 odd of you that followed the Movember link gave just $1 Movember would be, I don’t know, $60 better off to spread the news…
Now if you gave $5 each… that would be more than this silly Gnome can count…
Countless in fact… like the lives you may save by spreading the news and the cash
You can give via Visa, Mastercard, Amex or Paypal.
Paypal, perfect for those abstained coffee donations
i’m working on my donation, i swear… money’s just tight right now. anything to help remove the image of the unshaven Gnomeaggedon from your site… he’s freaking me out a little… i miss the green beard and moustache!
[…] (While I am not really participating in Movember this year, Gnomeageddon from Armageddon’s Coming is, and you can learn more about it in this post of his.) […]
