No, this isn’t an announcement for a new radio station playing the latest hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s with less ads, more music.
No more than 13 ads in a row!
This was an exercise born out of frustration. Actually to be honest I wasn’t that frustrated, but 5 losses in a row made me want to yell…
So I yelled!
In a nice way of course!
Before I begin, let me assure you Cynwise already knows I was playing BGs and I got what I think was a comment of approval…
Go to your room! NOW!
Aaawww Mum…
I had been in loses in AV, EotS, SotA, WSG and EotS once again.
I decided to give it one last shot. While the previous fights had been loses, it wasn’t for lack of trying. Some good battles were had and an appropriate level of:
L2P nub!
had been shared around
SotA popped one more time.
As soon as I zoned in, we were on offense, I started typing...
Melée drive Demos
Ranged ride shotgun on demos
Demos win the game!
Someone else called out a gate to attack and off we went.
Every gate that went down I called out encouragement & told people to move up. Reminded people to protect the demos.
As we got to 3 minutes I started doing time checks with a bit of encouragement on the side.
3 min to go. Nearly there, we can win this!
We got screwed right at the end. I looked up 30 sec on the clock…
25 seconds on the clock “The relic is vulnerable”
15 seconds on the clock – end of round
We did it!
OK, maybe not yet…
Sure we were giving the Horde 9.45 minutes to get to the relic… BUT… there was a chance it wouldn’t be a draw!
As we started racing to our defensive positions I made a big call…
We’ve won this folks!
We just need to keep the Horde away from the relic!
Destroy Demos #1 priority.
Ignore people on foot if you can see a demo
Don’t destroy empty demos – take them to 20% – NO DOTS!
When battle began I saw people chasing down demos, harrying but not solely focused on the loose players.
Players were off on their own taking the empty demos down to 20%
We didn’t hold them on the beach, in fact they were approaching the yellow gate before I realized it (I’m allowed to do a little pew pew, ok?)
I called out
Fall back to gold gate!
This was followed by other calls..
A player: Back to yellow NOW!
Another player: EVERYONE!
Not from one person, multiple people giving consistent instructions.
I called out…
Stay out the front of the yellow gates – Destroy the Demos!
and people did.
We saw a Hordie heading for the south flag.
Multiple people yelled out
let them take it…
Followed quickly by…
lol, the Horde took the graveyard… noobs!
Yep, now it was farming time.
They were rezzing at our feet, without demos close by.
People were calling out the incoming demos, so we could regain our focus.
I saw one and called it out then laughed when I saw…
Player1: It’s already red! (down below 20%)
Player2: They are all at 10% 😀
That got a laugh and a “good work” out of me.
I kept on calling times and encouragement.
Just as we won I made sure people knew what I thought of them…
Great work – you should all be proud – awesome victory!
The victory wasn’t mine alone
Edumakation
But I think I got myself a good edumakation.
I don’t doubt that the players knew what they were doing, there was enough vocal support to indicate that at least some people knew what was happening.
However, the same could be said for the previous few fights (with the exception of one EotS). They were all good BGs, not necessarily close, but still well played, people in general knew what to do.
Maybe it’s a figment of my overactive Gnomish imagination, but I think that me casting less spells and typing more words made the difference.
I have no doubt that because we were swimming and communicating as a group that we worked better.
It wasn’t just my words that drove the team on, it was the supportive consistent message.
Not one…
L2P NUB!

I always love it when there is good communication other than, You Guys Suck or L2P NUb.
Communication is key and as long as there is a strategy that is being given by someone familiar to the BG the odds are stacked in your favor.
Good job Gnome. I applaud your PVP skill leetness. Even if you are a Gnome….and a mage (please don’t tell any of the warlocks I have been cheating on them with my mage.) 😉
They do say you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar — although who wants to catch flies, other than frogs?
Yumm….frogs legs. Delicious.
Hooray! Beat the “You Suck-ers” at the motivation game. Maybe you’ll push them to extinction!
Jealous. Last night was so bad, I gave up and joined a pug ICC10. And proceeded to be stun locked by the rogue’s Severed Essence. Sigh…
Going to have to take a page out of your book and get some more positive reinforcement out there. I try, but definitely not enough. Thanks for the post!
I have to say between you and Cynwise my bg skills have gotten a lot better.
Loved this story! It’s so rare when you’re in bgs and someone is leading positively. Perhaps you should step up and lead all your bgs Gnomey
