I’ve been disconnecting from WoW a lot lately.
I’m not sure why, everything else is fine, it’s just WoW. Doesn’t appear to be a latency thing, just one minute I am running along, next I am hearing the roar of the starting screen dragon.
Apparently PewPew has been disconnecting too, just not as nicely as me. Not just him but a large proportion of the WoW population.
Mind you disconnects are nothing new to me, I have a long history of DCs. Most of the time it isn’t at an important moment. Even when I am questing and grinding and DC I generally come back to find a corpse at my feet, not my corpse at someone else’s feet. The only reason it’s a concern now is I am the healer, not the disposable DPS, if I DC during a boss fight (and I have), then it may spell disaster (once it did, another time I reconnected in the nick of time).
Something different
So my long history of DCs has made me notice something different lately. Until recently when I DC’d and logged back in I would:
- Be outside the instance door, if I DC’d on an instance.
- At the Battlemaster or point of origin when in a BG.
Lately, no matter where I die, I come back to the same place.
- Mid boss fight, I pop back in to drop some last minute heals.
- Mid BG, I pop back in to collect my BG marks or throw a few more heals.
EotS Disconnect recovery
I mentioned just yesterday how my EoTS team came back from 370 to win the match.
I DC’d when we had 1570 points!
Previously this meant I would return to the Battlemaster with no honor, marks or XP to my name.
This time I collected my loot!
I don’t know what Blizzard changed, but whatever it was GJ!
edit: OK, considering such a large proportion of WoW players have been experiencing this only since the release of 3.2.2, maybe I should rephrase that as GG… and not in the good sense…
Still, if the relog to your last position remains after they fix the DC issues, I’ll be a happy Gnome
edit2: Lethal has provided a link to the official forums with suggested solutions to these problems. Check it out and if it works for you, get down on bended knee and praise him

I don’t really think I’ve ever had a good disconnect! 😛
I changed my ISP this weekend actually, because I was having so many disconnects. Weird ones too… I would still be in game, seeing everything that went on, and able to read chat and get xp even, but I had no upstream and could not interact with anything. Couldn’t cast a heal, couldn’t tell my groupmates I was d/c’d (they didn’t think I was, cause I was standing there running around and they could see me–I could see them discussing it in chat!), couldn’t even log out.
Speedtests showed that my downstream was normal, my upstream was 0. Tech support decided that if I could load a webpage normally, I wasn’t having a technical problem.
I changed carriers.
This is soooo not relevant. But I needed my rant, and this is sort of about disconnects… 😉
That’s OK Rhii, you paid for this rant space with your comment on my other post!
Have you recently updated or got new mods?
The disconnects you describe often happen when your connection is flooded with data. Sometimes a mod will send or receive too much data too quickly, and Blizzard will drop the connection.
Try disabling mods and seeing if you still have the problem.
I’ve tried playing with no mods, with only the ones I absolutely must have to raid effectively, with the latest versions of my mods, flushing my dns cache, running the Blizzard Repair tool, had my line checked by my ISP. The only difference between playing with a rock solid connection and having to give up after trying to login to my priest in Dalaran thirty times in a row with a disconnect to the login screen every time, is that 3.2.2 was installed.
I’ve heard that excessive data flow from addons can overload your combat log and cause you to be dumped out. Switching off all your addons isn’t going to help, since your combat log’s still going to be flooded by the data from everyone else in your raid who does have the addons enabled. Apparently healbot’s a particular culprit where this is concerned, but that doesn’t explain why I suddenly can’t even get past the character selection screen. The only difference is that one day I had 3.2.2 installed and the day before I didn’t.
Rubbish night in BGs…
Average night in instance…
But, before I ran them, I upgrade my router’s bios and various drivers on the pc.. including network and video drivers (been a while since I did that I think)
I have updated various addons since 3.2.2.
I also installed a few new ones but have since disabled them in the hope that the disconnects would end.
No disconnects… 1st night without them since 3.2.2
I’ll keep you informed.

Try this
That’s awesome lethal…
Thanks heaps!
That link, and the EJ thread referred to later, look like solid gold. I’ll be trying that out when I get off duty and back to home. Many thanks.
Kattastrophe had a bunch of problems after the previous patch. Her video drivers were the culprit. I searched wow forums for the links, but didn’t have any luck (egad the advanced search function there is lousy!)
It turns out that SOME video drivers/chipsets got very upset with that patch. I don’t know if it’s the same issue with this latest patch, but that could be a place to start.
I had my first video glitch last night as I boated into Howling Fjord. All sorts of textures disappeared and then it locked. I had been alt/tav-ing a bunch so I just re-booted. It worked, but it took a LONG time for all the textures to load.
Crossing fingers that I’m not about to start having issues…
I had no problems last night after updating my drivers, but I will be working through that forum to see what else I can tweak
Same happen here…
I scanned my computer for trojan and virus,
removed wtf (who come up this name anyway = =”) folder
and reset all my ui….
Hopefully that’ll save me much more wipe tomorrow….
I am so depressed about this…
WTF… I’m sure a hommage to the WTF! we all know and love, but I believe it “officially” stands for warcraft text files.
Might be worth checking your drivers and having read of the forum thread Lethal provided…
Can’t be too catious
I d/c’ed 4 times last night over the course of a single raid, 25 TOC.
I was just beginning to think maybe it was some addons when I saw this page… yeah I think Blizzard messed up somewhere.
Oh, and it only DC’s me from WOW. Any internet browsers in the background still work fine, I don’t get disconnected from vent, I’m just kicked off of WOW. I’ll log back in within a minute and be back right where I was… but with horrible DPS
Hey Delerius, sounds exactly like what I was going through.
The good news is that since I updated my drivers I haven’t had one disconnect.
I forgot that the Windows Update only does critical updates… which never (rarely) include drivers. Likewise I had to manually hunt down my video card driver.
Might be worth a try
