Something that has been bugging me for a while…
How long?
3 versions of WoW long!
- I get maps of zones.
- I get maps of cities.
- I get maps of battlegrounds.
- I don’t get maps of instances.
Now I guess part of the reason is it spoils the surpise of knowing what is around the next corner, but hey, they could do it like all those other games where the map is only revealed as far as you can see.
Sure there are map mods like Cartographer and Atlas that will give you an instance map, but they are “dead” maps. Only as good as your favorite guide websites.
No, what I want is a “live” instance map, one that shows my position, and the position of my group/raid members.
Ever turned your head away from the PC during a wipe recovery run in, only to realize you have lost sight of the party member you were following?
Ever returned to an instance you haven’t been to in ages (maybe right now tracking done those Old World instance Elders)?
It drives me bonkers not knowing where I am in an instance.
Do I turn left or right?
Am I even in the right instance?
My Pally healer friend and I tend to be directionally challenged, and the worst thing that can (and sometimes does) happen is we follow each other on the wipe return into the instance.
If, and I mean if, we manage to return to the correct instance (think Auchindoun), then unless some helpful party member is waiting for us at the front door, we are screwed.
Whoa & betide if we are the only ones that die. The party will be waiting for am extra 10 minutes while we navigate every unnecessary twist and turn in the instance. Assuming of course we don’t run into a group of mobs after taking the wrong turn and have to start all over.
Com’on Blizzard, give us Instance maps!
