Flame Strike
We are in the middle of a heat wave. From what I read the Frost Mages are getting the short end of the stick.
Must be the case here in Melbourne, too much Fire, not enough Frost.
You see we are in the middle of a real world heat wave, which was fine while celebrating Australia Day around the BBQ, but is now warping the rail lines and making the trip to and from work blistering. I sun burn easily. How easily? My wife pointed out I had gotten sunburnt in the hour I was exposed to the sun to/ from work yesterday.
Still, spare a thought for those whose homes look like tinder amongst so much tinder. The images on TV last night were scary. I used to live about a kilometer from where some of the fires were last night… Property values are going up in smoke.
OK, so on a slightly more positive, if not slighty wired note…
AustraliChineseHappyNewYearDay
Monday was Australia Day, as well as Chinese New Year. Some might think this is a strange combination, but I was reminded once again how mutlicutural Oz is when my family hit the market on Saturday for supplies.
You see we had a couple of troops of dragon dancers. Probably about 10 dragons all up, big and small. Out of the 30 odd people doing the dancing, drumming etc, how many do you think were Chinese (or of Chinese origins)?
30, 20, 10?
Try none!
Did it matter?
He’ll no! I was proud to think that we could put on a Chonese New Year display even though the only Chinese were in the audience (bizzaro world).
Noah’s Ark anyone?
Speaking of cultural mix.
When I as in India at shopping centers, for as far as the eye could see, it was all Indians.
When I was in Singapore at shopping centers, for as far as the eye could see, it was all Chinese (give or take the odd tourist).
Back in Melbourne at shopping centers, for as far as the eye could see, it was the Noah’s Ark of humanity. 2 by 2, people of 96% of the world’s nationalities represented, includindimg indigineoius Australians. Darebin is a great council to live in.
Australian Invasion Survial Day
Back to Australia Day, or Invasion Day, or Survival Day depending on your depth of loathing for what the British and then Australian governments have done to the indigineous population and their land.
We had a BBQ. It’s what you do. Maybe it’s at the beach, maybe it’s in your backyard, maybe the local pub. But you are going to a BBQ somewhere.
Which brings me to this advertisement that has been running on TV lately. If you are ever wondering what goes through an Australian guy’s head while tending the BBQ, then have a quick gander at this.
While I am at it, another local personality sells the virtues of lamb.
Sorry for lack of posts over the last couple of days. More in the works, both from THD and myself. Got to have the occasional break.
Gnomer and Out!
And it’s cold here…. going metric it’s -6 but feels like -10, freezing rain, snow storms, and windy.
I dunno what I’d rather be tho, hot and sweaty or dry and frozen….
For the benefit of your Celsius challenged readers you could have pointed out that 43C is about 109F. That’s almost Death Valley.
Then try Adelaide Australia where we had a series of days above 40, and about 1 day in the last few weeks below 35 degrees. Any wonder I’m playing a lot.
Ahh yeah… thanks for the weather…
I look at the forecast for Adelaide…. /cry, then dream that we might get a nice refreshing Antartic blast… I mean it’s Melbourne right… city of 4 seasons in 1 day… so when did all 4 seasons have 35-45 degree days….
I guess it could be worse… it could be cold and wet mid-summer….
I just wish work played by the same rules that school used to.. you know, it’s too hot, don’t come in today…
