WoWAceUpdater is Dead, Long Live CurseClient
Rest In Peace: files.wowace and WowAceUpdater

So WoWAce lovers may not realise (despite WoWAceUpdater not doing anything) that WoWAce has now bitten the dust. This was fortold some time ago, but WoWAce and it’s updater were supported until the CurseClient was remodelled and improved.
So you can happily (well maybe) uninstall the WoWAceUpdater, and go to Curse and install the new client.
Other things you don’t notice
Ok, so while I am on the subject of Addons, Mods whatever you want to call them, I am reminded of my recent post It’s the things you don’t notice that really matter
In this case, it’s one of those out of game things.
Its the Mod developers and maintainers (and the sites that support them)
I have been through many a patch (both minor and major) that has totally screwed my interface.. this is nothing new, and usually sends you to the depths of dispair.
However I want to point out a few things.
- Things used to be much much worse.
- Blizzard really seemed to have improved the information flow to mod developers ahead of time, so many of the old issues are avoided.
- Things will break at patch time.. often this isn’t due to a mod, but the interaction between many mods.
- You can be your worst enemy by not backing up your WTF and addon folders before updating mods… sometimes when your settings disappear and you can’t recover it is your fault… not the mod developers.
A special shoutout to you Mod Developers, maintainters etc…
My interface is screwed at the moment… but that’s OK. I know you are working madly trying to find the broken bits, interacting with other mod developers to find out why your precious work slam dances rather than doing the tango.
Thank you for doing the thank-less, pay-less, time consuming task of updating your mods!
Sure we only notice you when things are going bad… but like healers and tanks, you are always appreciated!
PS: I would have mentioned this earlier, but I have had the Curse Client running in the background… it only occured to me that people might not realise the change when I saw a post from a mate on our forums.
Gnomer and Out!
Boo Curse. So hard to believe a site that is such a must for a lot of players so easily falls victim to keyloggers. That’s what concerns me the most about the death of the Ace updater.
Not that I ever had the Ace updater.
I have a very strict policy on programs that download stuff without your knowledge – that is, they don’t exist, and the ones that came with the computer when I bought it have long since been hunted into extinction.
